Brief description

The Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP) is responsible for ensuring the State’s resources sector is developed and managed responsibly and sustainably for the benefit of all Western Australians. As the State’s regulator for extractive industries and dangerous goods, DMP is the lead agency in administering Western Australia’s multi-agency regulatory framework. DMP ensures the State’s safety, health and environmental standards are world best practice and consistent with relevant State and Commonwealth legislation, regulations and policies. It is also responsible for the collection of royalties and has a lead role in providing geoscientific information, which supports private investment in resources exploration and development.
